Abuja is set for a major international polo showdown as the Federation of International Polo (FIP) brings the World Polo Championship Qualification Playoff – Zone E to Nigeria from 9–15 November 2026, with the Nigerian Polo Association (NPA) hosting the competition at Guards Polo Club, Abuja.
Nigeria, Iran, India and Pakistan will battle for qualification, but one storyline already stands out. Iran will arrive with Amir Reza, a familiar face in Nigerian polo who has previously played for some of the country’s major clubs. This time, however, he returns wearing Iran’s colours and standing on the opposite side of Nigeria.

The tournament also reflects the NPA’s growing international ambitions, with its chairman, Alh. Suleiman Abubakar, working tirelessly to position Nigerian polo on the global stage. With four national teams competing and a place at the World Polo Championship at stake, Abuja is set for a week of international polo with plenty on the line.
